To: Everyone genuinely interested in learning English From: Nigel Casey (A.K.A Doctor English) Via F. Pelli 2, 6900 Lugano, Ticino, Switzerland. www.doctorenglish.ch
Warning: This letter is not going to give you a typical description of how to learn the English language effectively. This information is not available anywhere and has never been printed or published before. You have found the secrets that most English language learners will never know. Here are just a few of the techniques that you will become familiar with:
How to learn English with or without an English Teacher and How To Start Speaking Immediately. I can tell you about students I have personally coached and students who have done it on their own, the point is this system is effective. They are not spending all their time on English grammar exercises!
How to quickly begin to understand even Native English Speakers easily and with little effort… while having fun! (English grammar exercises are not the answer!) This is such a simple idea that you will laugh when you read it, and still it is so effective you will then laugh from the pure excitement it will generate in you when you think about how it will effectively help you to understand native speakers easily.
How to learn English with or without an English Teacher and How To Start Speaking Immediately. The answer is not in English grammar exercises.
How to quickly begin to understand even Native English Speakers easily and with little effort… while having fun! (English grammar exercises are not the answer!)
How to easily learn 10 words for every 1 new word you discover! This my friend is pure 80/20 principle in action, every word multiplied by 10. This is an important part of the complete system that will have an exponential impact on your vocabulary building. The answer is not in English grammar exercises.
How to manage the Simple Tenses easily so you can start making positive, negative and question form sentences in all persons in a matter of days! The answer is not in English grammar exercises.Click Here
to read the story of one of my students who managed to do this quicker than anyone I have ever seen do it. English Fluency in less than 2 weeks.. without spending all her time on ...English grammar exercises!
How to always know what to say in English in professional situations. How about meeting your boss on the way into the office and hearing yourself say “Enjoy your meal” instead of a very simple “Good Morning”. This comes from a true story about a native Italian speaking friend who could never get the right words out in English at the right time.. now he is practically running the morning meetings in English.
How to always hope to have to speak English when the office phone rings (instead of hoping someone else will answer it for you). This is a truly incredible strategy for totally turning your situation around. If you have difficulty on the phone in English you do not want to be working in an environment where incoming calls from native English speakers are common… unless you want to show your colleagues how it’s done by a professional!
How to get people to ask you “Where did you learn your English? It’s really very good!” Maybe some really nice people already say it to you from time to time, but you know whether the compliment is really deserved or not! Imagine how it feels to receive that well deserved compliment again and again!
How to write spectacularly professional letters and emails in English. Again, this strategy is so simple you will probably laugh.. it’s really no mystery but I’ll bet you don’t have a system like this in place to ensure that your correspondence is professional 100% of the time.
Reading this entire page is going to have an amazing impact on your English language development!
Dear English student,
Let me ask you a few tricky questions ..
#1. Are you resigned to believing that you will probably never be able to learn to speak English like a native unless you move to London for a year or marry a girl or boy from America or some other English speaking country?
#2. Are you bored with the usual English courses that are based on grammar exercises?
#3. Are you fed up with lessons in large groups of people with different levels and different reasons for wanting to learn (or study) English?
#4. Is it true that you have been studying English for months (even years) without seeing any real, significant results? How many lessons (or courses) have you already taken so far? How much money have you already spent on English courses?
If You Really Want to Learn English Then You Really Do Want To Take 5 Minutes To Read This (You definitely need to download my free ebook which you will find at the bottom of this page).
It is quite likely that you are feeling frustrated as you read this because you have made such a big effort up until now to learn English and still you find it difficult to put sentences together when you are required to speak (that is, if you don’t simply shy away from situations that require you to speak English, which, by the way, would be perfectly understandable).
Just imagine what it would be like if ….
Instead of wasting time depending solely on a teacher to feed you English grammar exercises you could take control of your situation yourself and be responsible for rapid progress in developing your English speaking skills.
How would you feel if people kept asking you: “ Hey, Francesco, how did you manage to learn English so well, in such a short time, without going to live in London?".
How would that affect the way you live, work or go on holidays? Knowing that every time you speak English people are going to be amazed at how well you do it, and have difficulty believing you did it yourself?
All it takes is a very simple change in the way you think about how you are supposed to learn to speak English. Have you ever tried to navigate a new city with just a list of streets and no map or directions? More on that later..for now just imagine you have a list of names of cities, and no map! How can you get to where you want to go? How can you even know which direction to go in? ... as I said, more on that a little later.
I would like to share with you what happened to me after I experienced this exact change in the way I helped students to learn English the easy way. I should be careful of how I use my words, because easy does not mean with no effort! It means that your efforts are immediately effective.
My name is Nigel Casey, I am the president of the Doctor English Professional Languages Services & Consulting organisation with headquarters in Switzerland and I have been in the English language business for almost 15 years now. I have worked on a variety of different types of English courses for adults. I have helped people to speak legal English, Financial English, General and Business English, English for tourism, Medical English, Aeronautical and Nautical English.
I have helped people to do English Exams such as Cambridge, Toefl, Toeic and IELTS. Sorry, this kind of information is probably boring ….
Let us move forward to what is of real interest to you…
I am going to explain to you how I discovered the secret to helping students to easily learn English by first describing my role as a teacher over these past 15 years. I will say that right from the beginning my initial enthusiasm as a novice teacher of English in the Italian region of Switzerland was very rewarding for me, and especially for my students. My energy levels were incredibly high, my classroom manner was very dynamic, my students came to lessons as much to be entertained as they did to learn some new English language skills.
I was totally obsessed with the need to arrive at lessons early and very well prepared and I was equally obsessed with the need to get my students speaking a.s.a.p. (As Soon As Possible) I made the mistake of taking full responsibility for my students’ motivation and results. The teacher is responsible, but for something entirely different. More on that to follow..
You see, I needed every Swiss franc I could get my hands on, and the best way to keep busy was to make sure nobody dropped out of my courses … and because the results were excellent and so nobody dropped out, the word spread and as a result I got more and more job offers until I got to the point where I had to refuse courses (which was ok because it meant I could choose to accept only the most interesting ones ie.. the least under-paid).
After a couple of years of working like this (massive energy in the classroom) I eventually got curious. Then I asked my self a question that I had never even thought of before:
“ Why do I have to bring enough energy to the classroom to feed every single student who shows up? I’m not in the entertainment business after all am I? Surely these students should be motivated just by the fact that they are here, signed up for the course? Nobody forced them to start learning English, it was their choice.
I realized that I had put myself through a lot of unnecessary exhaustion but in the end I did accomplish what I had set out to do in the first place .. I had a lot of fun, I certainly learned how to teach and I got results. I got results for my students and my teaching career later (several years later) evolved to become the Doctor English Language Centre that it is today.
I am very happy and grateful to be where I am today and it is all thanks to the success of my students who were so grateful to me that they spread the word, and anyone who is in the service industry will know that there is nothing more powerful than happy clients.
During those early days I started to observe my students constantly. I wanted to understand how they were looking at their perspective of learning, or trying to learn English. Suddenly everything became clear, I finally realized Exactly What Every Successful Student That I Have Ever Had the Pleasure of Coaching Had in Common .. (more on this later).
I realized that by setting the stage at the beginning of each course my students’ success rates literally rocketed in a matter of just a few months.
I realised that a lot of what the English language learners’ market teaches you about teaching and learning the Language… is Not At All Effective.
Students will usually say; “I want to learn to speak English” or “I want to learn to understand English” or “I need to learn to write in English”.
Conventional course plans will help give you a basic idea of how English works, but 95% of your time will be spent on English grammar exercises and 95% of the time there will be no guarantee that you will actually manage to speak English at the end of your course.
Oh no!
Again, people criticise me for being so hard-lined on this and teachers will inevitably shout back: “I GET MY STUDENTS TO SPEAK IN CLASS ALL THE TIME!” Then they may even add, “My student has been coming to me for lessons for 6 years, if I wasn’t doing a good job he would have found another teacher”.
Wow, I say the student is loyal, unfortunately for him or her. The student would be well advised to reassess the teacher’s responsibility. Remember I said that in the early days I made the mistake of taking full responsibility for my students’ results and that the teacher is responsible, but for something entirely different. Well I insist on this point, and now I will clarify:
If it takes my student more than 6 days to start speaking English he or she is either:
1. Too stupid (I have never in 15 years met a single student who is too stupid to learn English).
2. Too afraid of being pounced on at the slightest error (I have met many insecure students, I have been one myself and know that it is not a difficult problem to solve).
3. Too lazy (Totally motivated but incredibly lazy at the same time, so the tendency will be to focus on the easy ground work – grammar - for at least 6 months before moving on to any speaking exercises).
“My friend has a natural talent for learning languages, I’m better in scientific subjects than in languages”
My response to this kind of statement is that your friend is instinctively applying a strategy which obviously has a lot in common with what I am describing here, she is focusing on the practical, not getting bogged down in the technical while using a logical approach based on the 80/20 principle. If you feel stronger in scientific subjects then this system will be so simple for you to use as it is pure logic applied. It is true that some students do this instinctively, this system is not my sole invention, it is the product of observing exactly what every successful student that I have ever had the pleasure of coaching had in common ...
I was working for many different language schools all at the same time at the beginning of my career, and I was eager to learn everything I could about teaching English (I still am, but most of what I learn I learn from my students). I truly wanted to help every student really make tangible progress and was happy to give away my energy and transmit my enthusiasm.
Somehow, I finally found myself “breaking all the didactic rules”. I was tired of having to feed the class with excitement to make up for the boring uninspiring lesson activities I was expected to use while teaching. None of my students were stupid, afraid or lazy.
I started to leave the course book aside and spend “too much time doing role play or drills”. Can you imagine? The frustrated language teacher who found himself being reprimanded by the didactic director because he had his students spending too much time talking in class and not enough time on grammar and course work? Crazy but true!
Of course, the students found their very own source of excitement once they started inter-reacting in class, they loved every minute of it! Their progress was incredible, they were showing concern about whether or not I would still be their teacher next year .. in the second month of their course!
I realised that I was effectively and ultimately working for my students .. not for my Didactic Director, and that gave me the freedom to develop new methods.
So what happened next? I decided to start doing things differently, or rather to continue doing things differently. I was no longer prepared to compromise my new found didactic principles out of fear of being reprimanded, unless it was from a student. I made a conscious decision to let my students, and only my students be the judge of whether their course with me was worthwhile or not.
Once things became really clear, I finally realized Exactly What Every Successful Student That I Have Ever Had the Pleasure of Coaching Had in Common .. and I was determined to cultivate exactly those qualities in all of my students.
I realised that the real secret to effectively learning the English language lies mostly in the students’ determination to succeed.
You can learn English without a teacher
You can learn English without a book
You can learn English without a language course
You cannot learn English if you are not consciously aware of your level of motivation and determination.
I do not mean to offend anyone, and I would like to explain that it is necessary to manage to focus your motivation and determination in a strategic manner, in order to obtain spectacular results. You have got to know how to apply your determined efforts. You have got to point your motivation in the right direction. If you feel you need a teacher (which is often a good idea), then you should be aware of what role he or she should play in your endeavors to learn English.
The ultimate responsibility of the teacher becomes easier to understand after reading the following few paragraphs:
Firstly, you absolutely must know that you really want to learn! Does that sound silly? "Of course I want to learn English, otherwise I wouldn't even be reading this text, never mind following my course, doing my homework, and making all the effort I make"... the truth is, unless you totally focus on the result you intend to create, then even doing the course and the homework is not necessarily going to be enough.
To discover How to Learn English Well you should first know that your determination is what will count the most.
So, do you really and truly want it? Do you know that the more you want it the easier it is to achieve? My first tip is to sit and contemplate all of the reasons that make you excited by the fact that the English language will soon be yours.
So lets get started ...
I usually start all of my English courses by setting the stage with the following message to my student(s). I can say that it is incredibly effective, and helps the student to almost taste language success. If you are working on general English or Exam preparation then just make some simple adjustments. The message remains the same.
Whether you're the teacher or the Student ...
Set the stage
The general point of this effort is, that we want to improve our effectiveness while doing business in English, or while travelling, or chatting up members of the opposite (or not) sex, or going for a job interview, or whatever it is that we want to do in English.
In order to guarantee real in-depth language development specific to ones professional function (to take an example) it is necessary to approach each individual key point to be communicated in a systematic manner.
The temptation on the part of the student will be to rush straight to a power-point presentation, or worse, to proceed with an ad-lib account of the information to be expressed (This happens, lets not forget, because we are dealing with active professionals who are indeed capable).
This unprepared fast track approach will result in a consolidation of the errors already being made and will obstruct the necessary attention to detail which is required to make real, tangible progress.
Fire up your desire
The key to immediate and easy success starts with the student's earnest desire to accomplish real progress, this desire may be quickly transformed into confident expectation of tangible results only on condition that the level of desire is adequate, ie very considerable.
I therefore ask the student, before embarking on this language development program to reflect on his/her level of Earnest Desire, and to then confirm the solid intention to immediately transform this desire into Confident Expectation, which will be accomplished by seeing the way in which the course will be followed (in other words it is also the teacher's responsibility as your trainer to fuel the fire by making it clear just how easy it actually is to accomplish your task and by doing so to create confident expectation in you).
This will ultimately but very quickly result in your Firm Demand for real and tangible results, because you will be determined to match, or at least strive to match my efforts. I give you these three ingredients by introducing them to you here in this welcome note, ingredients which are the key to getting your English to where you want it to be, but I will expect you to give it back to your teacher.
Focus your attention
At this point the importance of paying absolute attention to detail will be crystal clear and we may proceed with our work in a methodical and systematic manner both knowing that we are consistently moving towards our mutual goal and that we will make massive progress, which will and must become apparent in the business results we both achieve (remember in this example we are talking about English for a business context).
Choose the strategic approach
Are you familiar with Pareto's 80/20 principle? You will be if you keep reading :)
You really need to know what you need to learn, and that is apparently the most difficult part of the process for language learners, they do not know where to start. The good news is that I am going to tell you exactly how to learn English easily by simply knowing what it is that you need to know.
Do you see how simple it becomes? Know what it is precisely that you need to do, check your level of earnest desire, transform that desire into confident expectation (ie you genuinely expect to succeed) and then to firm demand (the most powerful of all, because you literally refuse to fail).
You see learning a language for most is like travelling around a very vast country for weeks, months or even years. The problem is that all you have at the beginning is a list of names of obscure places (grammar titles) that you need to visit. There is no map. The list of names is confused with the map which is not provided. You have a list of names and no clues as to how to get to the places with these names. You often don’t even know how they are related to each other.
Get rid of the list and start navigating the map, master this concept and you will be amazed at how simple the learning process becomes. The list is unconnected grammar – the map is linguistic functions!
Once you master this concept your entire approach to learning the language will totally transform itself into a really fun and exciting treasure hunt! One where you are guaranteed to reach your destination and pick up your prize because not only do you have a graphic map of the land with clear instructions as to travel to and from the various places you are required to visit...
..with this system you have a top notch state of the art GPS Navigation system to guide you, whether you go it alone or in the company of a professional tutor or coach.
Do you see?
Which of the following examples are more motivating, useful and obviously more effective for building communication skills:
1. I want to learn about coordinating conjunctions. I study grammar.
2. I really want to learn about Subordinating Conjunctions. I study more grammar.
3. I absolutely want to dedicate 3 hours to Correlative Conjunctions. I study grammar.
1. I want to describe my favourite car/food/city/book/music. I have a cool conversation and explore mutual interests.
2. I want to describe my professional experience at a job interview. I get a cool job and earn £10’000 more every year.
3. I absolutely want to convince my friends to come to a party. I expand my social circle.
The entire dynamics of your learning process changes. Your attitude... your results... your approach... everything changes once you understand the concept.
Do you know what the best part is?
I'll show you just a few examples of real people (just like yourself) who have experienced this transformation by using these simple laws based on the 80/20 Principle.
It’s just a question of knowing how to approach learning English, why you want to learn English, that you can really learn English and that you will not accept failure.

“I studied English for 3 years and still couldn’t speak when I needed to, I was always short of words but my biggest problem was knowing how to make a sentence, choosing the right tense and using auxiliary verb in questions and negative sentences ..”
I applied the Doctor English Easy English SystemTM and immediately knew what I needed to practice to start speaking in a matter of days! It is truly amazing how easy it becomes. It still requires effort, but something just clicks and all of a sudden you can start making the sentences you want!
P.S. I live is Spain so I couldn’t come to the Doctor English Centre is Switzerland for a course. I got lots of very valuable help on-line and via Skype for free.
Thank you Nigel!” José Rodriguez Cuidad Real, Spain.

“I want to sincerely thank you for helping me to finally start to understand even native English speakers. It used to be almost impossible for me to understand anyone who spoke English to me unless they were students like me who used basic English. The English accent always made it very frustrating for me.
With the Doctor English Easy English SystemTM it is so simple that you will laugh when you discover the fantastic information and tips Nigel gives to solve this problem forever”.

“This system is incredible! It is so funny to think that now I can learn 10 words (and sometimes more) everytime I find 1 new word to add to my vocabulary!”I could already speak a little English before, but now I have many many words to use when I speak.
Thanks again Nigel! Sandro Formentini Bologna, Italy

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Nigel!“I used to say very stupid things when I tried to speak English in my job. Then to make things worse, an American Director came to our plant in Switzerland and as head of quality I have to work with him everyday. He is very nice, but I was afraid I would lose my job because my English was so confused. I actually said to him one morning .. Enjoy your meal instead of a simple Good morning”. I felt very stupid, and that feeling stayed with me all day.
Now I lead the morning meetings in English and it’s fun!
With eternal gratitude for your excellent help, Davide C. Ticino, Switzerland
• Student testimonial no.5
“I was always trying to make myself invisible whenever the telephone rang in my office because most of the time it is someone calling from our office in London. It was terrible, knowing that at some time during the day, everday, I would be in difficulty, feeling stupid and stressed because I couldn’t communicate in English. Then I used the Doctor English Easy English SystemTM and my working life has totally changed! My colleagues always refer the calls to me now, and they have started to use this system too!
I love my job again, thank you Nigel! Clarissa Ponti Milan, Italy
These are just a few of our student success stories, we have hundreds more. By the way, these students didn’t necessarily all learn English at our language centre, some of them simply took action after discovering my strategies and applying them.
You can burn the midnight oil every evening for a year, you can study the language until you start dreaming about phrasal verbs, conditionals and the present perfect continuous, but unless you know exactly what you want to achieve the more you “learn” the more you’ll be confused.
If you want to start getting different results you have got to start doing things differently. You’ve got to stop focusing on the theory and start practising.
Think! What do you want to do with the English Language? What language functions do you require? In what order, do you want to describe your car or convince your friends to come to the party or the other way around?
Decide! How is the most effective way to spend the time you dedicate to learning English? Will studying Correlative Conjunctions be useful when you strike up a conversation in English at the party, or during your next job interview?
Act! Start doing it, not studying it. If you need to speak on the phone prepare your script! If you want to introduce yourself practice your lines! If you want to present your company in English make your message clear and then practice delivering it! Repeat it again and again, record your voice and listen until you love to hear your wonderfully clear accent.

This report is designed to help you if you are considering looking for a language course either in your local area or on-line. Language training is a multi-million dollar market and unfortunately there are a lot of so called “Training Systems” that do not provide the value for money that is promised in the marketing hype.
As I said earlier in this letter please remember this:
You can learn English without a teacher
You can even learn English without a book if you are determined
You can learn English without a language course
It is useful to seek help however and you can make the whole process much easier by choosing that help very carefully.
Don’t look for a teacher to feed you grammar, seek a coach to keep you focused on cultivating your reasons for wanting to learn English, your earnest desire, your confident expectation and your firm demand. Ask your coach to help you focus on your objectives from a practical perspective.
If you are determined enough you can learn English in a matter of months. I have spent the last few years improving the concept of learning English backwards in comparison to what the traditional teaching methods advocate.
As I already mentioned, I have gathered a lot of information directly from real students with real experiences and all of those who applied my strategies have been successful.. not just the 10 testimonials on this page, not 10% of all our students .. every single student who has applied this learning approach has succeeded in learning to speak English fluently.
Of the many thousands of students I have helped over the years those who have followed my advice have learned:

I am always interested in hearing of students’ experiences whether positive or negative so please feel free to share your story with me. We can learn from your positive experience and you can avoid disappointment by reading our tips.In the meantime take a look at what my students have told me over the years in this free report I have prepared. These are the 7 most common reasons language courses often disappoint students to the point where they will loose their motivation and just give up. I really do not want you to be discouraged, so wherever you are, if you decide to look for a language course you will know which questions to ask before you commit to enrolling on a course.
As founder and president of the Doctor English Professional Language Services & Consulting and of Learn-English-Options.com I can assure you that we have made every effort to ensure that none of these problems arise during our courses, but of course how we actually do it in detail remains our secret, a secret that we are happy to share with our students on-line and in-centre.
