Outline writing tips for creative websites

Outline writing tips for creative websites

One of the best ways to promote your business is through interesting and “valuable” content on your website. There are two ways to go about getting the needed content for your website, you can pay someone to write it for you or you can write it yourself. I recommend that you write it yourself. Here in this article we are going to give you the needed tools to write the content for your site. Before you start you will need to consider some outline writing tips to make sure your writing stays on course in a logical way. It is easy to ramble on but if you first organise the outline of your article it is very easy to produce good quality texts.

The type of outline writing that we are going to talk about here is creative writing. It is very important that you understand, I can not teach you how to be creative. In fact, there isn’t a teacher or mentor anywhere that can teach you how to be creative. What we can do is offer you ways to find your own creativity, and that is what I will do here. I am going to give you a couple of exercises that will help you tap into that creative power that is hiding inside of you. I am also going to give you the needed tools and techniques you will need so that you can write effectively.

Let’s tackle the creative exercises first. The key to creative writing is use words to create a believable picture in a person’s head. You want your reader to be able to not only “see” what it is you are talking about, but you want them to feel it, sense it. One of the best ways to get a handle on creative writing is through avid reading. Reading allows you to see the way other writers use words to create images, the way they bring things to life. Once you begin to get your creativity flowing you can get to work on your outline writing.

Another exercise that you can do to help unlock your creativity is to get out a piece of paper and a pen, and write. I’d tell you to write about anything, but for this exercise I want you to think about your favorite place, the beach, the park, the top of a snow covered mountain, the kitchen table in your grandmother’s kitchen when she is baking cakes. Whatever your favorite place is, close your eyes and think about it… see it. Once you have that picture in your head open your eyes.

Now on that piece of paper you are going to write about that place with as many details as you can. Use adjectives that entice the senses. The words that you use should create the vision that you had in your head. If you were in your grandmother’s kitchen, what type of table did she have, the color of the walls, the smells, what did you hear? Remember, before you start it's a good idea to focus on your outline writing exercise, then it will be very easy to elaborate on each key point to build your article.

There is another exercise that you can try, and that is really to just start writing. Whatever pops into you head, just write it down. So instead of holding back by concentrating on outline writing just start writing and get the words down on paper. You will then create enough "spark" material that you can then re-organise later. Whether you start with part of a conversation that you overheard, or recently had and turn it into a long dialogue that you find funny or entertaining. Just write, writing is one of those talents that needs to be practiced.

Now there are a number of techniques that you do need to know to help you write effectively. We will start with the idea. You are obviously not going to just write about anything, there is a point to your writing. Let’s say that your website deals with alternative energy sources. Your pool of ideas is huge! In one article you can not possibly address every aspect of alternative energy. So you need a topic.

Outline writing -Topic
After you decide on a topic you are going to need to decide how you are going to explain your topic. Many people find an outline useful. Outlines are beneficial for all types of writing. They will help you create a progressive flow of information that makes sense. I am sure that you can remember how to make an outline, it is something that we were taught in school. You need the main ideas, and under each main idea you will write to describe how you are going to support that statement.

Outline writing - Plot & rising tension
When you are creating the outline for creative writing, there are other elements that you need to keep in mind such as plot, rising tension, setting, believable dialogue. Going back to our example of alternative energy sources, from a creative standpoint you might consider making the plot “how alternative energy can save the planet.” Your plot is going to be what your article is about. The outline you would create then needs to talk about how alternative energy can save the planet, starting with the current state of the planet, how the choices we make impact the planet (make it dramatic), then you may want to talk about a couple of different alternative sources of energy, the benefits of using those sources and then summarize all the points you have made.

Outline writing - Keep it simple
Make what you are saying credible and understanding. The majority of the writing you are going to do for your website needs to be at secondary school reading level. This isn’t a bad thing, that is the level of reading the majority of (native English) people are comfortable reading at. You are not creating content for your website like you are planning on presenting to a room full of scholars. Write at a level that people can understand and relate to.

Outline writing - Unlock your creativity
Creative writing is a talent, and the creative part can not be taught… all we can do is help you discover your creative side. Once you have unleashed your creative powers, follow the simple writing guidelines. Decide on a topic, list details that will help support your topic, create an outline that builds tension, using language that everyone can understand and relate to.

Important notice for creative teenagers!

This is not just for adult writers! It's all about being yourself and expressing yourself in your own style.. your language does not have to be complicated .. in fact the simpler the better! Keep it simple, and if you want to read an inspiring story about a young lady who created her own very successful website..and wrote all her own material..

When you have started with your outline writing you can progress to the next phase. Start by getting your creative writing prompts for your website here!
